My paintings are deeply entrenched in the abstract expressionist tradition. My
quest is to use spontaneous gesture as a way of accessing intuitive
truths about the nature of our world and ourselves. I consider my work
to be organic and inspired principally by the natural elements --- the
feel and look of a rough stone, the rhythm and cadence of music, the
play of sun through the trees, the fluidity and movement of water. I
normally work in series exploring these themes, and groups often differ
dramatically in tone and style. In all cases, however, I prefer that
the paintings speak for themselves, and that the viewer take away from
the painting what he or she will --- therein lies the power of
abstraction.
